Credendo Green Package to back John Cockerill in one of the world’s largest green ammonia projects in India
At the end of August, AM Green Ammonia placed India’s largest electrolyser order (1.3 GW) to John Cockerill for a first one-million-tonne green ammonia project, located in an existing plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, where production should start in the second half of 2026.
The project includes the production of green hydrogen and its subsequent conversion into green ammonia and will contribute to India's net-zero emissions targets. The Kakinada plant will contribute to AM Green’s Indian production target of five million tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2030, supporting both India and Europe’s green hydrogen objectives.
John Cockerill aims to assist its partners in the deployment of large-scale technological solutions for economic decarbonisation and marks with this order significant progress in the development of its hydrogen business. Their cutting-edge electrolysis technology, combined with renewable energy solutions, will be pivotal in driving widespread adoption of green hydrogen and its derivatives within the region and globally.
Furthermore, John Cockerill is strengthening its presence in India and intends to capture a greater share of the growing local market, especially in the steel and hydrogen industries. Credendo is enthusiastic about supporting John Cockerill in these emerging markets through its Credendo Green Package and encouraging this positive impact on the planet.
