Fronting agreements: unlocking a global marketplace

Credendo’s extensive footprint means it is able to offer policies and services across much of the world, in some cases directly, in other cases via our fronting partnerships.

Credendo – Trade Credit Insurance

Later in 2025, we hope to have in place new fronting partnerships that will allow us to issue policies in China and India. Currently, Credendo – Trade Credit Insurance is able to offer policies in territories around the globe via three significant fronting partners:

• ICIEC – The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit

Credendo partnered with ICIEC in 2012 allowing it to issue policies in almost 50 Islamic countries worldwide. It is one of our most important fronter arrangements, representing over € 10 million in premiums every year. This partnership opens up a swathe of markets, predominantly in Africa and the Middle East, but also stretching from Suriname in Latin America to Indonesia and Malaysia in south-east Asia. Key advantages include no taxes on premium invoices as ICIEC is a multilateral and part of the Islamic Development Bank Group. Also, brokers can be registered in any country in the world – there is no need for a broker to have a license or presence in the country where the policyholder is based.

• Lombard

Our fronter partnership with Lombard enables us to offer policies in South Africa, while additional countries in Africa may also be added via a Financial Interest Clause. It is a very flexible arrangement though only South African rand is accepted as a currency.

• ATIDI – African Trade and Investment Development Insurance

In many other countries across sub-Saharan Africa, we are able to offer policies via our fronting agreement with ATIDI. Policies can be issued both in ATIDI member states as well as non-member states. After a prudent start, we are now seeing cooperation gain momentum in this high-growth potential region.

Credendo – Guarantees & Speciality Risks

In addition to its network of branches, Credendo – Guarantees & Speciality Risks has also formed partnerships to better serve clients across the globe. This is made possible thanks to fronting agreements with carefully selected foreign partners.

Our first partnership agreements were signed in 2012 with EXIM Bank Malaysia, PT Asuransi ASEI Indonesia and ICIEC – the latter covering almost 50 member states.
In 2014, we expanded our global reach by partnering with the Arab Investment & Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (Dhaman), representing a number of Arab member countries, and Türk Eximbank. And finally, in 2016, with ATIDI.

These partnerships are invaluable in terms of the sharing of high-quality data, information and risks.
